An Interview with Wladimir Wienkowsky

by Taniko

Wladimir has settled into Tango Cattivo, that novel of international intrige, with aplomb. Due to the nature of his, ahem, business, he can be hard to find, but finally he's cornered and consents to this interview:

Q: Tell us some things about yourself

I worked some time as a journalist so I am probably better in taking interviews then giving them but I will do my best. Well, in RL I studied history and politics and I try to use my area of expertise in my writings. I was born and I live in Europe so that heavily influenced my writing style and my interests.

Q: How did you discover PanHistoria?

By fluke, I remember searching for fan fiction and I stumbled onto the site.

Q: You're a writer in Tango Cattivo. Could you tell us something about your role there, and your interactions with other writers, some of whom are very likely not on your same side?

Originally I was not certain what role exactly I would take. After couple of weeks the ideas got clearer and I decided to write a villain (so to speak) with a twist. The standard movie and fiction of image of east European gunrunner is naturally a thick accented Russian, preferably with KGB background. I thought that Polish national with naval background would be more interesting and actually a more believable. After all the former Warsaw Pact constituted many different nationalities and the late USSR was a combine of different ethnical groups.

I am flexible in interactions. My main idea was and still is to construct an individual story line and then move along as opportunity arises. I would like to thank the writers of Tango Cattivo and especially our MOB's: Aisha, Ardis Hanna and Vincent Hanna, with all of whom I have excellent relationship. I am especially grateful to Christine de Treville, my oldest and most reliable cowriter.

Q: What other writing ventures here at Pan have you been enjoying?

Well, I dabbled in a few things. I tried my hand in most of the genres around and I regularly follow happenings on the daily index. PH is very fluid and I especially enjoy chats with other writers. I think diversity would be one of the greatest appeals of PH. I am also contributing a bit with work on the monthly Action genre page.

Q: In some random hypothetical roleplay, what sort of character would be your greatest "stretch", but that you might consider tackling sometime?

Good question, actually there would be quite a few of those. Being a jack of all trades means being master of none and I prefer to concentrate on one front. But let us say my greatest stretch would be writing in Western.

Q: What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishments, whether in real life, or here on PanHistoria?

I am quite proud of my BA and MA degrees and on the simple fact I seem to do well on PH since I am not a native English speaker.

Q: If you had goodly finances at your disposal, but had to spend them travelling, where would you go, and why?

I think I would take a nice long tour of Europe and I would love to visit the sites of ancient civilizations, particularly Egypt, Peru and Mexico. I think I would try to go as far as possible until the money runs out.
