Why I love Pan
by SkyClad Niall
Who are you going to be today? A member
of the patricians in the eternal city, walking through the
piazzas of philosophies and political intrigue, hearing vague
rumbles and rumors of wild hordes of magical barbarians? Perhaps
you will wish to drift lazily in dreams along the serene stately
Nile before the colossus at Karnak contemplating eternal life
with the sun? Who are you going to be, and when?
Stephen Hawking expands our universes and concepts of physics
through the use of imaginary time, draws out long complicated
equations to fill the voids and spaces between the stars, and
seeks a grand unifying theory of understanding. And we, here
at Pan Historia, exist as member in our own imaginary time
and space, populating the spaces and gaps in
history, philosophy and art creating a grand unified theoretical
existence of our own. If Hawking is correct in his postulations
of
multiple universes, than we can inhabit one (or more) of those
universes, all at our beck and call. All we must do is choose
who we
are going to be today.
H.G. Wells filled our imaginations with thoughts of time travel,
to go
and see for ourselves the past histories, and to look ahead
to the
future histories. Jules Verne placed us upon the moon, and
took us to
the unfathomable depths of the seas, and Pan Historia has permitted
us
to virtually populate the imaginary with characters. We live
along the
margins, within the spaces, and upon every page written, and
proceed to
write our own.
Characters come to life in interactive roles, expanding the
possible,
examining the probable, and reaching out to the impossible,
a dream
reality overcoming the distances, spanning time. Role-play
to cloak
ourselves in aspects hitherto unimagined, escaping the day-to-day
existence and stepping out upon the world stage and expanding
both the
mind and the enjoyment of life. All at the beck and call of
answering "Who are you going to be?"
Who are you going to be today? Philosopher, King, slave, Emperor,
poet,
God? As children we played freely taking on the roles of heroes,
actors, and life models exploring each and incorporating into
our
characters the aspects which we chose. And once again we are
invited,
enticed to play amongst friends in the roles of our own choosing,
to
grasp further into the realm of the imaginary, to seek out
the answers
to questions, to reach further then we individually dream,
and to dare
dream again.
It is from the dreaming, the daring, and the audacious chances
of
attempting that we reach to the heights and limits, and then
beyond
into the realm of the unknown. What I love about Pan Historia
is the
opportunity to reach beyond, to lay my hands upon the unreachable
and
bring it on home.
