Many
of us wear different hats here at Pan, and Raisa Derevko is no exception.
MoBster at Amóre Mortale, writer of a Russian Mob Princess in Tango
Cattivo, Romance genre Genie, and reporter for the Pan Historian
are only the most visible signs of her work. In addition, she's friendly
and funny, and a pleasure to chat with. Here are just a few questions
that she agreed to answer for us.
Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself...
Raisa:
*pretending to smack gum* The names Derevko, Raisa Derevko.
*thick New York accent* How you doin’? *giggle.* Lets see, I own a design company in New York, which is actually a front for my organized crime organization, ??????? ?????, or Dead Earth. You could call me a Russian Mob Princess. *smile* That’s just one novel, in another I am one of those lost souls wandering Earth having a good time on the devil’s dime. Sounds wicked, doesn’t it *evil grin* I get to stay up late and wear red stilettos, what more could a girl want?
I also have several other old alter egos
that will never leave my heart. I will dispense my emotion
now: Jesse Reeves (I hope she finally found the truth out about
vampires *S*), Camilla Ashner (eternally stuck in that library
at Crimson Kiss), Hawkeye Pierce and Walter Radar O’Reilly
(Who doesn’t love MASH, wish I was still in Korea. *S*), Kathryn
Janeway (Sorry for the short stint Captain. *S*), and lastly
Tiberius Sergius (I will never forget this name…It stuck by
me for sooooooooooooooo many years.)
*in a meeker voice* Offline
I am a sophomore in college, your local roving reporter wannabe.
*S* If you didn’t guess one of my majors is Journalism, the
other is Marketing Communications. Everyone asks me what I
want to be when I grow up and I smile and say an adult. *giggle*
I don’t know what I really want to be yet, but luckily I have
time for that and the majors to back me up. *S* Other than
that I am your normal college student: drugs, sex, and alcohol.
Oops, can I say that? I mean , , and . *smile* I really have
a horrible sense of humor, too. *laughs at her own joke* I
guess the best way to describe me would be my mom’s
definition, a pixie with attitude. I am unmarried, no children, and my
birthday is November 16th. I will be 20, and I definitely welcome
gifts. *huge smile*
Q:
Why did you join PH?
Raisa:
I was a refugee. I don’t know if Dia will
even remember this, but she invited my then alter ego Tiberius Sergius
to join in on the beta. I have been here ever since. And
been loving it!
Have you ever done any online writing before in another community like
AS? Oh dear yes. I started Ancient Sites in about 1997.
I started with
the name Tiberius Sergius, because I was young, and well didn’t
know better. Although my name was masculine I kept it, become
my split personality. I hailed in several areas in Rome, several eras even.
*S*
I stuck through the Vines and stayed devoted, later I was invited
to Pan Historia and its been my home ever since. Hope you guys have been
able to
put up with
me. *S*
Q: Have you
ever done any other writing outside of cyber communities, such
as poetry, journals,
or anything for professional publication or personal enjoyment?
Raisa: I try to keep a journal
and it just doesn’t
work. I think it’s because I am on here all the time or that my life is
just that boring. *S* I have a few pieces of poetry posted at Poetry.com,
which were
published in their coffee table books. I occasionally write little articles
for different outlets and am trying to freelance a little. For Personal
enjoyment
oh yeah. I have little pieces of paper and notebooks and schedule books
filled with little stories that I do on my down time at work. *S* Right
now I am trying
to adapt Raisa into her own novel to be published. Who knows what will
happen with that…*S*
Q: What is your
favorite novel, reference book, or a particular area of Pan?
Raisa: I love everything
about Pan. But my loyalties lie with Amóre Mortale. *insert shameless plug here* But I definitely
love everything. My favorite genres have shifted since I very first
started writing. I have to say I am attracted to the Action and
Horror Genre,
and of course the Romance Genre. But again I love EVERYTHING about
Pan. That’s
for the record. *S*
Q: You are
the Mob for “Amóre Mortale.” What
is your favorite aspect of that? What do you find the
most challenging?
Raisa:
My favorite aspect? I get to be evil without
the worries of absolution. *S* My favorite thing really
and honestly is being able to write with
all the great writers I do. Hampton and Father
Bermier are
absolutely amazing and I don’t know what has possessed them to
write with little ole me. *smirk*
The most challenging thing is getting some people to believe that we don’t
worship anyone in the novel. The idea is based on the very dark aspects
of love and some
people think we have stated we are a cult. I don’t know if you want to
call Amóre
a cult or not, it just deals with what some people are willing to do for
love. I think it is very beautiful in a melancholy sort of way. Its one
of those novels
that I say people have to read to truly understand. The writers we have
are doing a great job, I am amazed at the start Amóre
has had. Everyone has put in so much work and I think
it is really starting to pay off. The storylines are just spectacular
over there. *S*
But than again
I
am partial. *wicked grin*
Q:
What are your greatest accomplishments, either in RL on here at
PH?
Raisa:
My greatest accomplishment would be my relationship
with my mother. Her and
I used to fight all the time and now her
and I are like best friends. She has accepted my personal style
and I have hers and
she loves
my individualism, which we often used to fight
about, just because I voiced my opinion rather forwardly.
*S*
My writing is my other accomplishment. It has
come
leaps and bounds. When I was in middle school
I thought writing would be a lost cause for
me, but I loved
it anyways and stuck with it. Now I criticize
my writing horrible, ask Hampton, he’ll tell you, but
I know its come a long way from The Book
of the Aliens from Planet X. May that book rest in peace in my closet forever.
It might be dug up just to get the right title. *S*
Q: Favorite color - and why?
Raisa: Black. Black goes with everything. People
say white is the universal color, but black leaves so much to the imagination.
I think that it gives a sense of sensuality and mystery which is great.
Black can tell a lot about person or very little, its completely up to the person.
Q: And last
but not least – if
you could be any animal in the world, what
would you be?
Raisa: I would definitely be a tiger. They are dark,
mysterious animals that have this seductiveness that is intriguing. Tigers
have it all; they have appeal, beauty, and power. How great would it be to be
a tiger?
