Momma Says Laugh

by Goldberry

This is what Momma's dictionary says: laugh verb, To express certain emotions, especially mirth or delight, by a series of spontaneous, usually unarticulated sounds often accompanied by corresponding facial and bodily movements. med·i·cine noun, The science of diagnosing, treating, or preventing disease and other damage to the body or mind.

I am a firm believer of the old saying, "Laughter is the best medicine". Nothing gets me feeling more chipper than a good joke. Even when I'm not feeling down, I always enjoy reading things in the Comedy genre here at Pan. The action of laughter relaxes muscles, reduces blood pressure, and allows more oxygen to get to the brain. There also have been studies that show that laughing boosts the immune system; ergo, making you less susceptible to illness.

Nothing can beat laughing. There is no better stress reliever out there. Sure, a nice bubble bath may relax you for a little while, but it is only a matter of minutes before those stressful thoughts start to loom over you like the boogy-monster.

A good read, or watch, whatever you fancy, keeps your mind more easily tuned to the laughter. Perhaps you don't have a good sense of humor; then spend more time with people who do. One of my favorite people is a man who has the best laugh in the world. If someone says something funny to him, he will laugh so loud that you can hear him clear across a crowded room. It comes from the bottom of his gut. Just thinking about his laugh makes me smile. He is the kind of man that you should spend time with. If he wasn't the father of one of my friends, I would probably date him he is so enjoyable.

I never wonder why people spend time on Pan at work. The majority of them are hoping for a laugh. They probably could not get through the day without laughing. I dare you to try. If you did, by the end you would be feeling so crummy that you would want to cry. I bet you are laughing at just the idea of not going through the day without laughing aren't you? It is impossible.

Just a few last thoughts from Momma: Laughter is the world's language. We all share it. Also, don't fear your laugh. It is yours. Don't listen to others that use laughter wrongly to hurt people, and don't use it wrongly yourself. Then lastly, because Momma likes to sing, she is going to sing you this song from "Mary Poppins"

Uncle Albert:
I love to laugh
Loud and long and clear
I love to laugh
It's getting worse ev'ry year
The more I laugh
The more I fill with glee
And the more the glee
The more I'm a merrier me
It's embarrassing!
The more I'm a merrier me!

Mary Poppins:
Some people laugh through their noses
Sounding something like this "Mmm..."
Some people laugh through their teeth goodness sake
Hissing and fizzing like snakes

Bert:
Some laugh too fast Some only blast - ha!
Others, they twitter like birds
Then there's the kind
What can't make up their mind

Uncle Albert:
When things strike me as funny
I can't hide it inside
And squeak - as the squeakelers do
I've got to let go with a ho-ho-ho...
And a ha-ha-ha...too!

All:
We love to laugh
Loud and long and clear
We love to laugh
So ev'rybody can hear
The more you laugh
The more you fill with glee
And the more the glee
The more we're a merrier we!
