Featured Personality: Hermione Granger
by Garsylfren
The first thing that I noticed, of course, is that Hermione Granger
is from the Harry Potter series. My character, Garsylfren, is from the Lord
of the Rings--more specifically she is from the Riddermark. Have you read
both sets of books? Or seen both sets of movies? And, if so, what attracted
you to Hermione rather than someone like Arwen or Galadrial?
I've read both sets of books, and I've also seen all the films. I'm a big fan of both series, though it's probably obvious that I favor Harry Potter more! I think the reason I chose Hermione over someone like Arwen has to do with timing. When both of the first films in the series came out and the novels for both were in their beginning stages, I'd not yet read the Fellowship of the Ring or any of the other books from the Lord of the Rings but I had read the first four Harry Potter books. I actually wasn't sure whether Hermione was the right Harry Potter character for me, but a friend convinced me otherwise. Apparently, I can be quite like Miss Granger!
In the Potter books, the characters have been growing up as we read about them. Where do you see Hermione going in her life? Is that something you will roleplay here at PanHistoria?
Currently in our novel, Hermione is studying to be a Healer––the wizarding world's equivalent of a doctor. We've already roleplayed all seven years of her schooling at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and currently have her and her friends, Harry and Ron, in their second year of university. I envision Hermione exploring spell research in connection with healing to develop new methods for helping ill wizards.
Since you write in a Harry Potter novel, I'm going to take a guess that you enjoy fantasy writers. Do you have any other novels/series that you like? And is there a character you'd enjoy roleplaying from that novel or series?
I'm not too wild about the fantasy genre in general, but I've read some of the more popular series, such as the Chronicles of Narnia, the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman, and Eragon. I'm a fan of all and sometimes think it could be fun to join the novels based on them, but I really don't have the time! To answer your question, though, I like Peter Pevensie from Narnia and would consider writing him if he were available (and if I weren't swamped with RL).
To go "RL" for the next one: if you could be any historic figure, who would you be?
One of my favorite historical figures is Eleanor of Aquitaine. I think it would be interesting to be her, but at the same time, I'm not sure I'd actually want to!
Lastly: a just for fun: if there was only one spell Hermione could cast, what would it be?
Hmm, I think I'm going to go with a page-turning spell. Hermione's an avid reader, after all!
