Olga Aleksandrovna

by Dr. Taniko Kishimoto

Olga Aleksandrovna comes to us from her strong interest in the Romanovs and their period in history. She's very active in several novels, and is, I believe, our most recent Librarian. Combining research and her creative writing interests are her strong points, and keep her many readers and friends coming to read more.

Q: How did you come to discover PanHistoria? What kept you coming back?

A: I discovered Pan while surfing on the web, I was actually searching about the Romanovs and I found the novel The Romanovs – One Last Dance, but I didn’t become Olga A. for a while after I joined. Let’s see, I came back because my love of writing is well used here, it keeps my writing skills good, and I love the community here. Everyone is so nice!

Q: What is it about writing that appeals to you?

A: I love writing, but I can’t say that about when I was a child, back then I hated writing or reading. When I got the chance to write and read about what I liked, it appealed to me more, and I began to enjoy it, now it’s one of my favorite things to do. Well, it’s hard for me to explain why I love writing so much, for me it’s so natural to me, it’s like if I don’t write I’ll go mad.

Q: You are active in The Romanovs - One Last Dance, Beauxbatons Academy and Alltud. Tell us something about your character in each of these?

A: Yes, I am active in those three novels. Well for The Romanovs – One Last Dance novel I play the Russian Grand Duchess Olga Aleksandrovna Romanova, who is the youngest sister of Tsar Nicholas II, The Last Tsar of Russia. She’s mostly known as Olga A. because there are at least three Olga’s in that novel. I play the aunt of OTMA (Grand Duchesses Olga, Tatiana, Marie, and Anastasia), and their little brother Alexei, who are Tsar Nicholas’s children.

For Beauxbatons Academy (of Magic), my character is a third year Phoenix. My character name for this novel is Olga Karonhisake Aleksandrovna, but she is known as just “Olga” since she’s the only Olga there for a change. She’s non-royalty, but a witch in this novel. My character is Russian born, but is currently living and going to school in France, so she is fluent in Russian, French, and English.

For Alltud, my character is Olga Marie Aleksandrovna, a professor at the Cardiff University in Wales. She is a professor of History at the university, a subject she has much loved since she was a child. Once again, she’s Russian born, but often moved around when she was a child. She has Welsh blood in her, which is what lead her family back to Wales.

Q: In some random hypothetical roleplay, what sort of character would be your greatest "stretch" that you haven't yet done, but that you might consider tackling sometime?

A:. Wow, that’s a hard one, let me think about that. I don’t really know about that one, I can adapt to many different things to write about, just as long as I have some kind of knowledge to go on.

Q: You are now a Librarian. Could you tell us something about the periods of history that you most like to research, and what comes naturally to you to explore?

A:. Yes, I’m now a Librarian and proud to be one! Basically, I love all kinds of history, there’s something about it that just draws me to it, like I’m spellbound. Well, my two favorite kinds of history are French and Russian (hint: my character is a Russian Grand Duchess). When I was a child my father used to tell me stories about the Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov, and over time it grew into a love for Russian history.

Q: If you could share a conversation or two with any person, living or out of the pages of history, with whom might this be? What would you like to discuss with him or her?

A: Ah, I have thought about that for a long time, but there are way too many people I’d love to talk to! I guess I’ll do one from the pages of history and one living person. One of the people I’d like to talk to from the pages of history would have to be Empress Elisabeth of Austria, known to be the most beautiful woman of her time. Since, I love poetry and Empress Elisabeth did, I would probably discuss poetry with her. For a living person, I would love to talk to Liv Tyler, the actress who played Arwen in Lord of the Rings. I would discuss with Liv Tyler about how working in Lord of the Rings was and such things based on that.

Q: since this issue's theme is "Traditions", could you share one of yours with us?

A: Let me think, I remember one tradition very well. Before Christmas, my brother and I always decorate my Grandmother’s Christmas tree for her. I don’t remember how it started or why, but nearly for every year we did this.

Q: Has this been enough nosy questions for today?

A: Hahaha, the ones you have asked are fine, I enjoyed them. Maybe one day I can as you the same questions.
