Gaia's Daughters
by Zoe

Women's history has often been overlooked in the past but the roles that women have played are not to be dismissed. Even the not-so-famous women can teach us much about the everyday lives of people from another era through their letters and diaries, and the way in which people lived is important to our understanding of historical events.
The seed for the Gaia's Daughters Reference Book was planted in 2000 by a group of women at the old Ancient Sites who were interested in a discussion forum for women's roles in antiquity. We kept this idea alive on a Community Zero board for some months before moving it here to Pan in the summer of 2001. While many of these ladies are no longer here, the idea has grown to include women from all eras of history and many walks of life.
Gaia's Discussion Boards hold the heart of the reference book, with posts by our members on topics such as Women of the Far East, Literary Ladies, Mythological Women, Women and War, and Women as Healers, to name just a few. Two of our most popular topics are A Queen on the Throne and Queens in Antiquity, both of which discuss royal females.
On Gaia's Social Boards you can find out which notable women share your birthday in the Almanac or read about women in the news in Adding a Page. Climb up on our Soap Box and rant or rave, or reminisce about what it was like when you were Growing Up Female. Play our trivia game, Great Women You Haven't Met - Yet, or let our bartender Rosalind mix up your favorite drink in our bar as you join us for a Ladies Night Out. Tell us about your favorite Fictional Women or try your hand at a bit of creative writing in Letters Through Time.
Gaia's Daughters is not just for the ladies either. Sir Denis seems to be enjoying our company! We MoBsters - Myrrhine, Rosalind, and Zoe - cordially invite you to join us at Gaia's Daughters.
