Once Upon A Forest
I’ve been a MOB in this novel from the start, but after a while of activity, it started to slump and eventually “died” for a while. Several members left, including MOBs, leaving only myself and Rosalind O’Neill, and we had to decide: let it die, or take action? Well, hauling novels back from the brink of death is kind of a speciality of mine, so despite my innate laziness, I couldn’t let it go. With the help of some new applicants, and the timely return of Ellspeth (dust-jacket designer extraordinaire!) to the Board, Once Upon A Forest started to move again.
The Great Forest is a retirement home for magical or fairy-tale beings: witches, wizards, dragons, elves, fae, dwarves, kitty-demons, and so on. Well, the Forest is technically a retirement home, but characters have also moved in because they fancy a bit of peace and quiet, regardless of their age, and even been sent there in exile. It’s open to everyone!
Since the premise of the novel is all about fairy-tales, we plan to romp through a couple of them in the near future, but they’ll be fractured fairy tales, such as you’ve never seen before, where the only thing you can expect is the unexpected! We’re still just getting up off the ground (again), so the stories are still being moulded, but Hansel And Gretel has been suggested as our first victim… *ahem*… plotline.
Why not come and visit the Forest? The Witches can usually be relied upon to provide a light lunch and lots of cream cakes. Just watch out, because cream cakes are very rarely used as food in the Forest. They’re much more likely to end up all over the table, your clothes, the walls, the ceiling… And if you manage to avoid getting cream-splattered, it’s still advisable to bring a handkerchief - the resident Feckers have a nasty habit of sprinkling sneeze-inducing Feckerdust over unwary bigjobs. (A Fecker is like a fairy, but less concerned with scruples. A bigjob is anything bigger.) You’ll probably stumble across characters grouchy or optimistic, magical or just plain strange… and watch out for the nut-chucking squirrels!
The MOBs are: Lyssa Fionnban, novel rescuer; Ellspeth, creative genius; and Rosalind O’Neill, writing strength. We’re all pleased to answer any questions you have about the crazy world of Once Upon A Forest. If you want to join the madness - and please do, all are welcome! - then swing by and apply right now! You can choose your own brand of magical mayhem. We’re looking forward to dusting… *ahem*…. seeing you!
