The Copper Pot

by Grimm Fairie
"Myths are public dreams; dreams are private myths. Myths are vehicles of communication between the conscious and the unconscious just as dreams are." - Joseph Campbell
The Copper Pot is one of Pan Historia's oldest reference books. Created to be a reservoir of fairy tales, mythology, legends, and fables, The Copper Pot has also created a little community of its own in which all aspects of world literature are discussed.
Archetypal deities, monsters, and comparative mythology are some of the themes and concepts that have settled in to the virtual leaves of The Copper Pot. Having members from all over the world with such diverse interests and experiences also lends itself to a sort of fantastic exponentialism in the development of this book. And the trivia game is one of the toughest around.
From our dustjacket:
Despite regional and cultural differences of many favorite stories, the recurrence of certain themes and even characters in myths, folktales, and fables is a phenomenon that has enchanted many of us. The Copper Pot, named for the story of the Fisherman and the Genie, is the place to explore these topics for the sake of curiosity, good discourse, or just astonishing revelation.
Bringing different literary traditions, experiences, and preferences to the discussion at The Copper Pot is what will make this not only fertile ground for exploration but also a place for insight into who we are and where we come from. Issues of gender, religion, morality, and redemption; stories of heroes, mercenaries, deities, and beasts make up some of the twine that reaches across cultures binding the tradition of the storyteller, priest, guardian, archaeologist, and poet into one.
The Copper Pot is very grateful to our imaginative and energetic members for making us such a fun and eclectic reference book. And many thanks to Pan Historia for not only featuring us this month but also for giving us such fertile grounds in which to grow.
