Mary: Quite Contrary

by Goldberry

Recently, Pan Historia started offering members the chance to write their own web blogs (an online journal.) Several members instantly signed up, and one of the first on the scene was Mary. Because of her wonderful humor, wit, and overall cleverness and entertainment, she was chosen to be this issue’s Featured Blogger.

First off, why do you blog?

Because it’s there, and the call was too much to even try resisting. Although, when I think about the real reason why I feel the need to share tidbits of my real life on the internet, I can’t figure it out. It doesn’t actually make any sense. Maybe that’s why it’s so fun.

Do you ever write fictional aspects into your blog, or does it all come from your real life?
For some reason, it never occurred to me to make things up. It’s all real, although I do have a tendency to exaggerate. (Just a little…)

Did you ever consider writing it from the point of view of one of Mary’s personalities? Why did you choose to write it from your point of view instead?

I briefly considered it, but since Mary gets to be herself in all the novels she’s in, I wanted the blog to be my turn.

Do you have any other blogs on or off Pan?

Nope. I used to have a blog at blogger.com, but I lost interest and deleted it.

Do you read other blogs on Pan? If so, which ones are your favorites?

I really love reading Pan’s various blogs, they’re a hell of a lot of fun. I have to say Bellatrix Lestrange’s and Tank Girl’s are some of my favorite to frequent, but I find myself perusing most of them. I think it’s the best when cross-blog discussions crop up and go in all kinds of directions; I like to see what everyone thinks about a particular subject and it’s fun to see that everyone is reading everybody else’s blogs. I also enjoy being able to see a glimpse of the people behind the characters.

If your blog was to be made into a movie, what genre would it be, animated, live action, puppets? What would be the title, the protagonist, the antagonist, tagline, and plot? What would be some songs on the soundtrack? Who would you want to play the leading role?

Ack, no puppets!

I think it would have to be animated. The complete inanity of the whole thing is more forgivable that way. Also, if it were animated, then Robin Williams could be the voice for the protagonist. The protagonist I guess would have to be Mary (yeah, I want Robin Williams to be the voice of Mary. He’s so cool that it’s bound to work out nicely), and the antagonist would then be the hoards of vapid teenagers she has to fight off every day to retain her delicate hold on sanity. There probably wouldn’t be any discernable plot, just chaos interlaced with dry sarcasm. I’m not quite sure what genre that would belong in….

The title can stay as ‘Quite Contrary’, and the tagline can be ‘bored, but never boring’. I’d want a cameo in the movie somewhere. That’d be great!

Let’s see… as for a soundtrack, it’d probably have songs like ‘When I Grow Up’ by Garbage, ‘Turning Japanese’ by The Vapors, ‘Insanity’ by Oingo Boingo, ‘Alegría’ by Cirque du Soleil, ‘Selector’ by Skindred and ‘Talk Show Host’ by Radiohead. Oh yeah, and of course ‘Mary, Mary’ by Chumbawamba. To fill in, there can be angry, loud rock music in Arabic (like ‘Barra Barra’ by Rachid Taha) to accompany the superfluous fight scenes. Any instrumental stuff I’d want done by Danny Elfman, because his music is some of my absolute favorite. That should do nicely!

Anything else you’d like to add?

Only to thank and applaud Wyatt for coming up with the blogs, and to thank you very much for interviewing me. I’m honored!
