AntiMagick
by Chris
In a mirrored universe, where magic is the norm and those without it are far from accepted, the ‘non-lings’ are on the brink of the worst years of persecution they will ever know.
The Salem non-ling trials.
For the last few years, non-lings (those without magic) have been slowly growing in number. Why this is, nobody knows, but everyone is aware of it. Many are scared – non-lings are unpredictable, even dangerous. They have found ways to conceal their identities, potions that give the illusion of magical abilities; some even seek magical cures that have deteriorating effects on their health and appearance and don’t necessarily work.
But now, the council has had enough. They have hired ‘help’ to seek out certain non-lings and make sure they leave the area… dead or alive. Now, the fears of non-lings confirmed, they flee into Salem Forest, seeking sanctuary and escape from their magical pursuers.
AntiMagick is a novel not only of magic and persecution, of history reversed and dramatic events, it is a novel that focuses deeply on the characters who are a part of it. The frightened non-lings, most of whom are innocent of their alleged crimes, the council, terrified of what the growing population of non-lings will do to their sovereignty, and the witches, wizards and magical creatures who are caught as pawns in the struggle, some sympathetic, others not. It is a story of their personal struggles as they balance morality with obligation, and friendship with fear.
