The Drippin Shade
Interviewed by The Balrog
The unique character known as The Drippin Shade is a featured
character for the latest issue of the Pan Historian. Only The Balrog dared
approach his lair...
If you would be so kind, do tell us a little bit about yourself?
Drippin: Well, I come from a long line of Drips, all predisposed to haunting and looming, in aristocratic locations, but some relatives have stooped to haunting cottages and hovels..tsk tsk, really best not to mention them too much
Why did you join PanHistoria?
Drippin: I needed a home after Ancient Sites closed, and I must say it was a good move, and I could continue to er ..pester me online friends, I mean continue my services to great literature.
Have you ever done any other writing outside of online communities, such as poetry, journals, professional publication or for just plain personal enjoyment?
Drippin: I have written for all of the categories you mention, including my work (librarian) but as yet no professional publication. I am well used to the thump of brown envelopes returning my efforts, as I reach for the bourbon, well anything of an alcoholic nature. But the enjoyment remains, as it should, otherwise writing would lose its meaning.
The Balrog thinks that the Changelings looks like a great novel, where it can sprawl out and release the (not so) hidden Monster Within. Any advice for The Balrog, if it chooses to join?
Drippin: Changelings is a novel that seems to attract writers of a truly original turn of mind and I do not include myself there. I am always amazed by the ideas that turn up and wish that I had thought of it. Lots of room for monsters there, hell it accommodates spooks, skulls, zombies, you name it ,they are there! If the Balrog joins I can only advise him to remember that in the Otherworld, folks change their shapes and their alliances on a frequent basis.
What are you up to, Into the Woods?
Drippin: You may well ask (bitterly). normally I reside in the Castle along with the Headless ghost, and I just love the Castle balls! Now under false pretences I have been lured onto a pirate ship – I thought I was going on a luxury cruise with cocktails and evening entertainment, and retro musicals! Instead I have to hobnob with Capt Hook, the Wicked Stepmother, and a horrible little girl called Pallas.
What spawned your rather, erm, unique name, and would you hang out with Shades from the wrong side of the tracks that don't drip? Or, Balrogs?
Drippin: The name came from the deep and dark murky depths of my mind, (no you don’t want to go there) and I will nod at non drip Shades..briefly.- Balrogs have a noble pedigree and are quite all right.
What are your greatest accomplishments, real life or otherwise? Is this really a pertinant question for a Drippin Shade?
Drippin: Real Life? That I found such enjoyment in writing, otherwise surviving life, or non life, with The Skull –pertinent? No not all but who cares!
Could I have my beer back?
Drippin: Don’t be silly I’m the Drippin Shade…..Get a Life!
