SOURCES in Pan Historia's science fiction community have recently confirmed that a spontaneous outbreak of fanfiction has infiltrated the entire genre.
The fanfiction outbreak has been confirmed by official sources, with the torrid accusations and wild rumours flying through the SciFi wires being carefully investigated by your faithful reporter, First of Nine the nice Borg, who is completely unbiased and has absolutely no conflicts of interest in the matter.
"I quite often print out posts in order to wave them around and cool down my circuits in summer," SciFi Genie said in a recent interview, keeping a poker face worthy of Will Riker. “Fanfiction is incredibly useful in that situation.”
After being bailed up on the Intergalactic Highway, Fantasy Genie gave an embarrassed cough and blushed furiously. “Well actually, Sci-Fi may have caught it from us...we had some unprotected and at-risk contact some few months back if you remember,” she said.
On further interrogation, Fantasy Genie admitted that the alleged outbreak may have come from History, who probably caught it from Westerns.
“That is proposterous as we all know that Fantasy and SciFi Genres truly are the the festering swamps that breed fanfiction,” said History Genie after calling a ten minute break from a sword-fight with a suspiciously dressed Greek.
“The History Genre has fans of history far more than fanfiction.”
Lieutenant Commander Data of the Starship Enterprise has been called in to investigate the matter and possibly conduct repairs.
“I suggest running a Level Three Diagnostic on all site systems,” Mr Data said.
“If further action is required, I may be able to realign the warp sensors to compensate for the sub-phaser output in the expository systems in order to kickstart the reality drive,” he said.
“Unfortunately, this could result in a somewhat invidious outbreak of Who Wants To Be A Popstar threads. I recommend setting all phasers to sterilise."
SciFier John Daker, on being bailed up at a space station somewhere in the Zeta Quadrant, denied everything.
“I was at the movies when that allegedly occurred,” he said. “And all my shots are up to date.”
Mr Daker also said that fanfiction has been around for a long time.
“I hear there is a fringe group out hunting down fanfics,” he said.
Rumours that the fanfic outbreak is a plot by the Borg to distract attention from their assimilation of 21st Century Fox with the ingenious use of a time travelling space shuttle, a paperclip and the left-hand rearview mirror of a Ford Falcon have been vehemently ignored.
