Wyatt‘s Wall by WebMistress
Unlike many larger community sites on the internet Pan Historia tends to be more like tightly-knit personal and familiar commune where members get the benefit of this rural supportive environment. One single person has the ability to make a significant positive impact on the entire site, and the site is totally supported by individual members. This is true on all levels, from the newly joined cub all the way up to the Publishers who own Pan Historia.
Traditionally this column, Wyatt’s Wall, is written by Wyatt himself where he gets an opportunity to share some of his thoughts about the site from the perspective of a programmer, owner and operator. However, because he’s the jack of all trades here at Pan and very hard at work lately he wasn’t able to write for us this Edition. But fear not, for rather then let the space go to waste Wyatt agreed to have his column written anyway and allow me to talk about a few of the exciting new features he’s provided us these past few weeks.
April came around and one big change hit: The Pan Millionaire’s Club Salon became a novel instead. As most know from the advertisements The Pan Millionaire’s Club is a novel whose membership is comprised of Bestseller subscribers and up where those supporters are able to offer and discuss ideas focused on site improvement. The choice to move the club from a Salon format into a novel was so that the group could be more involved with the community and visible, encouraging other qualified members to join and participate. So far this transition has been a huge success and several features have become reality here at Pan from the Millionaire’s Club.
One recent proposition birthed from the Pan Millionaire’s Club was a new chat room which can now be found right off of the Community Dailies. This Chat Room is flash based and highly customizable both from the programmer’s end and the user, so if you want it to look totally different all you have to do is adjust the settings to your liking. There are also smilies incorporated into the room and a myriad of commands for your chatting pleasure, such as /me in front of a sentence will demonstrate your handle in an action, like /me is typing produces WebMistress is typing. To play with all the commands enter /? and the system will list the various options you can try. So far Pan Commons has had plenty of activity during peak times which seem to be in the mornings and evenings and you can find all sorts of interesting characters mingling about.
Another great feature that has just appeared is the institution of an official Events Calendar. If you’re wondering what fun happenings might be going on any particular day just click on the date and up will pop the day’s events. All events listed on the Events Calendar are community events and are open to all members of Pan Historia. Just about any sort of activity can be included in the calendar from scheduled chats, contests or celebrations - as long as they are for the whole community. Just like the chatroom the calendar is in a beta phase and currently only Wyatt is able to add events, so if you’d like to have something added please leave a message for him at the home of The Lord Of Multitasking including the details of the event.
Now if that weren’t enough Wyatt’s also tackled some older bugs and enhancements recently. The once eternal struggle of the adding friends to salons tool is finally over and salon owners can add their friends without trepidation as mistypes of character names when adding won’t break the salon anymore! Another neat function that has been added again is the check all messages to be deleted for home messages, which now actually works.
So as you can see there are many wonderful new features being created for us here at Pan, some old tools getting a few tweaks, and as always our fearless leader Wyatt is diligently striving to improve our virtual community.
