![]() The naos (a Greek term) was the shrine of the Netjer (god). It was like a box or tabernacle, usually made of wood or of stone that could be brought out of the temple. It carried the image of the god within and represented the heavens. They were carried out of the chapel, within the temple, in procession or carried on the back of the divine barque. The sides often held images of the king supporting the canopy. Sometimes statues show the figure holding a naos.
