In the Theban Triad Khons is represented as the son of Imen (Amun) and Mut. His name means "wanderer" and he is a lunar deity. He is most often represented as a mummiform human, but sometimes with a hawk head. He wears the sidelock of youth, holds a sceptre and flail, and headress that is the crescent moon surmounted by the full moon. He has associations with another lunar deity, Djehuty (Thoth), and also appears as a cynocephalus baboon (a kind of dog headed baboon) at times. In Kom Ombo he is represented as the son of Sebek and Het-Hert (Hathor). One of his manifestations, referred to as "the provider" was credited with driving out evil spirits.
However in the Old Kingdom he had a more bloodthirsty aspect - in a spell designed to give the King power absorb the powers of certain deities, it is Khons who hunts down and slay the victims.
