AMAUNET

by Tjeti Sobkneferu

Like her consort Imen (Amun) her name means "hidden one" and she is one of the primeval Netjeru (gods). Her shadow was a symbol of protection. Though represented at Ipet-isut (Karnak) since the 12th Dynasty, she was over shadowed by Imen's wife Mut. Amaunet seems associated with the king's accession and his jubilee festivals. She is seen wearing the red crown of the delta. In a late inscription she is identified with Nit (Neith).
