Memorial Day

The echoes in a grave yard
Are heard by none at all
The only soldiers that march here now
Have already heard the Anthem’s call

Each man has risen to the challenge
Each man has fought in his own war
But should we ponder for just a moment
    What were they fighting for?

    Did they shed their blood
For Truth, Justice or the American Way?
Could the vision be so narrow
To only encompass what the American’s say?

No the truth it lies deeper then that
As the bugler’s horn fades away
Each soldier fought with all his heart
To give freedom to us, for one more day

Whether they fought for right or wrong
They felt the cause was great
They marched in lines, wave after wave
    Believing that it was fate

They raised their voices in protest
They raised their guns prepared to fight
The least that we can do for them
Is to bring them home by guiding light

So remember now, each person that fell
Your freedom with their life they did pay
Send up a prayer to ease their souls
And remember them on Memorial Day
