We've Failed

What do you do when justice fails?
When the criminal walks, when he prevails
When the law turns its back
    On the innocent attacked
    When justice isn't served
    Just as they deserved

What do you do with the weeping child?
Who cries his heart out and fails to smile
Who's spirit is broken, by justice denied
Who's only solace is the tears he's cried
His weeping eyes, they tear, they burn
And you know his world will never turn

He'll never look at the sky the same
Never know freedom was his to attain
He'll remember the hurt, the emptiness, the pain
He'll remember justice was denied a-gain
He'll see the world in shadowed hate
Knowing that criminals his life did take

No childhood, no joy. Only fear is his
All because the law failed him in this
His father beat his mother, his brother thinks it cool
No one observes in his house, the Golden Rule
Just one little boy, failed again and again
Just what lessons are we teaching him?

What do we do when justice fails?
When criminals walk, when they prevail?
