Faces

So many faces in life we wear
One in faith, One to rare
To be seen by human eyes
Lest our grace we jeopardize

The shadows dance and hide the truth
Is the mask that I wear now lost in youth
Be it real or be it not
This is the mask that my blood has bought

The etches of pain, the echoes of deceit
My heart that once was whole, now lies in defeat
My eyes they see the world surround
It was a moment that was profound

I understand better the lives we all live
The things we tell and the things we give
But when your heart echoes another
What once grew free, now does smother

I can not trust my heart that beats
His name written there and the pain repeats
Day after day till I am a shadow once more
I ache for his whispered words that I adore

Lips that moved across my skin
Forgotten moments traded for thoughts of him
I open my eyes and see my disgrace
To hide the hurt I'll show the world a new face.
