Once Upon a Forest
by Kaitlyn

Once Upon A Forest is a rest home for magical beings, but do not
let yourselves be led astray by sweet, innocent, little old witches and wizards,
kitty girls and genies, amongst others. Our residents are very youthful, full of
fun and adventure! They have also been known to be somewhat crotchety, cunning,
and assured in the knowledge that they have more insurance than you.
Once Upon a Forest has somehow managed to defy the odds in
surviving the great crash/meltdown of 2004 and was at the time styled as a
retirement home. In fact our most recent, and primary adventure was started when
one of the residents by name of Merlin sent a group of our residents back in
time to the age of chivalry. {Whenever that was?} But back to the great crash;
having survived, the present inhabitants, having a look around, perhaps a bit
befuddled by the turn of events, immediately set about the task of continuing
the food fight which had been started prior to the crash. One of our residents adds: "We
are famed for our feasts, too. Cakes, pies, lashing of cream - and we are not at
all partial to a glass of wine or two *hiccup* :)"
I can't say much of what came before the crash having arrived shortly after as
Kaitlyn, the Kitty Imp. Kaitlyn almost immediately began following around Macha,
and Logan, as well as enjoying the company of such notables as Noodles, Rosalind
O'Neill, and Lyssa Fionnban. We've had our ups, and downs, as well as more
adventures than what you might expect of residents in a retirement home. Despite
the name, we’re young, old, quiet, furry, pink, tiny, sketched,
multi-talented, adventurous, energetic, loud, serious, nuts, flippin’
marvelous and stark raving mad to boot! When asked to say something about the
forest, a resident had this to say: "Why is a raven like a writing desk?
Why not? Why a raven? Why not a flamingo? Or a puffin? Or a polar bear?"
Ok, I'm not sure what was meant by the comment, but I never said any of us had a
solid footing.
The forest itself has undergone various metamorphic processes over the years as
the residents often ventured out only to find the greatest practical joker
around was the forest itself. Our dust jacket novel description says we are in
the far distant future, but in reality we spend most of our time reliving the
past. We’ve been in a lot of stories too. We don’t twist them so much as
drill large holes in them, fill them with fuzzy green things, and play
basketball with it. You may even find the occasional fur ball hacked up as well.
Magical doors which open for you may stranded you in another time or place -
maybe not for good; but certainly for a good part of your stay here. Very often,
some 'unlucky' beings find themselves in our delightful company whether they
like it or not - magic lures them here. The home, and the cabin we often stay
at, is one in the same, and every individual cabin within the forest, is but a
room, or suite within the home. How else could a simple cabin in the woods have
so many rooms within, along with doors, and cupboards that can lead to most
anywhere imaginable. Do be careful though, not all doors have a return door once
you've closed it behind you, and several will lead to different locations
depending on such things as time of day, season, and who opens it. Also keep in
mind that your closet could periodically lead to someone else's bath.
We have fun here, and that is perhaps the one reason this novel has lasted as
long as it has. Even despite misunderstandings, periods of inactivity, and
people coming, and going, we have endured. In some ways it's a little bit like a
family, and I would welcome any who've left to come back any time they want.
