Win A New Novel In Romance Contest

by Calliope

Romance was happy to host their first "Win a New Novel in Romance" contest, in April 2010. While most novels at Pan contain some romance, the Romance Genre needs new feature novels to entice it's readers.

The rules were simple – come up with an original idea for a novel that would contain not only romance, but would also easily allow writers to come up with their own characters and storylines within that concept.

We had five fabulous entries, each of which would have been welcome in the Romance Genre. "In Hallowed Halls" was based in the world of secular high school students, and would have been Romance's first PG-13 novel. "The Ends of the Earth" wanted to explore the relationships of those separated by war or some other obstacles, and how those lovers fight to overcome them. "Zen and the Art of the Heaving Bosom" planned to take the world of literary romance and bring all of those characters to life, depositing them in our everyday lives.

But two novels were chosen and have been created to our great delight. The judges chose "All's Faire" to be our grand prize winner. "All's Faire" takes place in a Renaissance Faire, with all of the actors, vendors, and performers you would see at a real faire. While "Courtly Love" was our People's Choice winner, and features a fantasy world of Knights and Ladies all preoccupied with the ideals of courtly love.

Many thanks to everyone who entered the contest or who writes in the Romance Genre. Your imagination and your love keeps this genre alive.
