The Old Norse saying, Sjaldan er ein báran stök, translates as, There seldom is a single wave. The meaning of the saying was that good luck or bad luck is often followed by more of the same.
This novel will have multiple branches like Yggdrasil, allowing writers to go adventuring in the Viking Age. One branch will focus on the travels and exploration from Scandinavia to the New World while another concentrates on Viking Age Britain and Ireland. Other branches can grow as writers need to go aviking.
This is a historical novel, not fantasy so no dragons or sea monsters except those within the mind. Seemingly supernatural occurrences can happen, but only as they are interpreted by the period people. Some research should be done on the period, but writers are encouraged to develop their own fictional characters and flesh them out to occupy the spirit of the age. If interested, writers can also become historical figures such as Erik the Red. The branches can have different time periods as the Viking Age took place during the 9th-11th centuries.
While there is an application process for the novel, it is short, sweet, and nearly guaranteed to result in becoming a writer at Seldom a Single Wave. Writers can post short stories, novelettes, and/or be part of the larger story arc.
We’re working on the structure of the novel right now, including the DJ design. Places are ready on the boards for bios, research, socializing, planning, and writing. Please jump in and enjoy! Be sure to get your bio up including those for your NPCs. If you have questions let the MOBs know.
