"Still more majestic shalt thou rise,
More dreadful, from each foreign stroke;
As the loud blast that tears the skies,
Serves but to root thy native oak.
"Rule, Britannia! rule the waves:
"Britons never will be slaves."
It is early summer in London. The royal family resides at Buckingham Palace for the annual commencement of the season with a traditional garden party, followed by Trooping the Colour in the coming week.
The descendants of Charlotte and Leopold still reign over the British Isles. The dutiful but disliked Queen Charlotte II has been Head of State since the death of her father, the controversial Edward VIII, in 1976. This, in her fortieth year on the throne, the Royal Family is hoping her dedication to duty and events scheduled all summer to highlight her years as queen can bury some secrets...
Rumors of Her Majesty's past indiscretions have somehow made it to the international tabloids, causing her subjects to question their loyalty. Her elder daughter's ugly divorce from a Belgian prince, following an adultery scandal, and the perpetual bachelor state of the 33 year old Prince of Wales who has no intentions of settling down and providing a future for the family, Queen Charlotte has secrets to bury and a family to manage.
Can she regain control, or will her past come back to haunt her?
