The Hellenistic Age. These were the days of Macedonian ascendancy. For nearly three centuries all the lands from the shores of Sicily to the River Indus was the battleground and playground of the Antigonids, the Ptolemies, the Seleucids, and other dynasties in their ongoing hot and cold wars.
Rooted in the conquests of Philip II and Alexander III of Macedonia, Greek culture flourished as never before under the patronage of their successors, until the slow squeezing of the rising Roman and Parthian empires overturned them and absorbed them, the death of Cleopatra VII of Egypt bringing all to a dramatic end.
