"Horror is
not a genre, like the mystery or science fiction or the western.
It is not a kind of fiction, meant to be confined to the
ghetto of a special shelf in libraries or bookstores. Horror
is an emotion." ~Douglas Winter |

"Fear has many eyes and
can see things underground." ~Miguel de Cervantes

"Where
there is no
imagination, there is no horror." ~Sir Arthur Conan Doyle |

We
are fascinated by the
darkness in ourselves, we are fascinated by the shadow, we
are fascinated by the boogeyman." ~Sir Anthony Hopkins |

Midnight Society is a
reference magazine dedicated to the discussion of horror literature and
writing. What makes a story horror? What classics do we draw
inspiration from? If you write horror, how do you improve upon your own
craft? These are some of the guiding questions for this
magazine.
|

What
are we doing here? This magazine is not a repository of
articles. Although we may share articles, essays, and other
references, these are only to support the ongoing discussion of horror
literature and becoming better writers of horror. Post links to your Horror genre posts, asks for critiques, point out posts other people have written that you find great examples of horror writing here at Pan.
We are a magazine, so anyone is free to post here, but we do ask that you do not start new threads. Please visit the social board thread "Feedback and Suggestions" if you'd like to suggest a new discussion thread.
Challenge.
Discuss. Improve.
Please
take into account that we are not experts here, but we all have
something to offer in sharing opinions and helping each
other. We ask that our members engage others in conversations
and comment on posts, striving for dimension in our
discussions. In this effort, all threads on the Discussion
Boards are fair game for constructive criticism and honest hashing out
of ideas. Get over the fear of being critiqued.
It's horror, people. Face your fear.
