Am I a Flounder, or a Founder? You tell me. |
You can consider me the Collective Fish. Currently in residence are 3 regular bettas and two crowntail bettas, otherwise known by their Latin name, Betta splendens.
They're all male, and they originally hail from Thailand, where they live in stagnant puddles and need to surface breathe. The males instinctively attack their own kind, so they have to be housed separately.
I have three betta containers. One houses a lone fish (Felix), and the other two are duplexes with a dividing wall, housing Sam and Hain, and Merry and Pippin, respectively. The latter two are the crowntails. They have fins that look like they swam a little too close to an electric outlet. Update: I have one betta at home now - Merry. Three more are at work - Felix, Sam and Hain. Pippin bit the dust, no doubt the rock he threw down the well in Moria...
The twenty gallon tank holds small African ciclids from Lake Malawi. The photo on the upper left of this page is that of a random small cichlid.
I'm using an Electric Yellow (Labidochromis caeruleus) as my avatar; I have four of these. I'm not totally set on their personal names yet.
The other two fish are sometimes called "rusties" or just plain "sprengerae", for Iodotropheus sprengerae. They are deep rust colored with brown and dark purple. There were originally three, but Istnofret died and Nefertari has her consort Ramses II all to herself. He's the biggest, and most dominant, fish in the tank.
There's a new fish in a gallon tank, a guppy simply named Guppy. He's tiny but intersting when the light is fluorescing him.
Photos of my own fish are forthcoming, once I take some that I'm satisfied with.
Information about these fish can be found at:
I should be adding in another tank sometime this winter.
PS: I rather doubt I'll be playing in any novels. There's limits on what I can do in a storyline, and I'm not about to start up a Finding Nemo one. I LIKE my tanks, thank you.
