Born on September 22, 1601, Ana Maria Mauricia, or Anne of Austria, was the daughter of Philip III, king of Spain, and Margaret of Austria. She was the infanta of Spain and Portugal, archduchess of Austria, princess of Burgundy and of the Low Countries. On November 24, 1615, at the age of 14, Anne married Louis XIII, King of France, and became Queen Consort of France and Navarre.

In the All For One: Tales of the Musketeers Novel:

The year is 1624 and Louis has recently named Armand Jean du Plessis de Richelieu, Cardinal Richelieu, his chief minister. Richelieu’s desire to curb the power of the Austro-Spanish Habsburg dynasty, as well as his hold on Louis, create a great deal of tension between the Cardinal and the Queen. Anne’s relationship with Louis is equally as sour. The two mistrust each other and are rarely together, leaving France without an heir and the Bourbon line unsecured.
