In the Century of Chaos Novel:
Once a successful military commander, Gnaeus has accepted the title Emperor which was thrust on him by a grateful Senate. However, Gnaeus soon found politics tedious and boring and with no further wars to fight he took up criminal investigations as a hobby. The intellectual challenge of solving mysteries is what motivates this Emperor - that and the unending demands made on him by his wife, the stunning Aura. Aura, herself is a detective and at times the Imperial couple find themselves at odds because of differing views about a case that interests both of them.
