New Tales of Middle Earth - Eldar

In New Tales of Middle Earth

Númenor

Mae govannen. My name is Menellen Lindórië. I was born to Elennar (Noldorin) and Aiwë (Telerin). My father's family was proud to serve the House of Finwë (first High King of the Noldor in Valinor). My mother Aiwë was related to Olwë and Elwë / Thingol, and her sister was Elenwë.

I awoke in Cuiviénen by the Sea of Helcar, under the stars, before the Sun and Moon arose, and before the First Age. I lingered in Middle-earth until the second trip of Tol Eressëa, which brought many of the Teleri from the Bay of Balar to Aman. The island is currently anchored at the Bay of Eldamar. I lived in Tol Eressëa awhile before we moved to Tirion, for my father loved Tirion.

But my mother loved Alqualondë, so we moved there. After my mother died in the kinslaying. my grieving father could not face his wife's Telerin kin in Aman. He decided to follow Turgon and Elenwë to exile in Middle-earth. During the journey, my aunt Elenwë perished in crossing the Helcaraxë.

I lived in Nevrast with my father and Turgon and also lived near my father while they built Gondolin. But I also visited other kingdoms, and when my father and Turgon moved to Gondolin, I visited him and then journeyed to Doriath.

In Doriath, I lived with Melian the Maia and the people of her kingdom. That land was ruled by Melian and Elwë / Thingol, my mother's relative.

I also visited Nargothrond, ruled by Finrod Felagund and based on Doriath. Finrod was the eldest grandson of Finwë's second wife, Indis, and Finrod's mother was Eärwen, the daughter of Olwë, a relative of my mother.

My home was still Doriath, but the Doom of the Noldor followed us, and Thingol required Beren to acquire a Silmaril if he wanted to wed Lúthian. The dwarves killed Thingol, Melian left Middle-earth, and her Girdle of protection was broken. My intended, Neldorion, died defending Doriath.

I fled with other survivors to the Mouths of Sirion, where Círdan offered refuge, Later I went to the Isle of Balar, which was once part of Tol Eressëa, the floating island which Ulmo used to transport Eldar to Aman. However, a piece grounded and broke off, becoming Balar. There I collected pearls found along the coasts of the island. Gil-galad fled to Balar after the fall of Gondolin.

By the end of the First Age, I came back to Tol Eressëa, near Aman, and saw Avallónë built on the east coast. I sometimes travel to the island of the Númenor, and now I will sail with Eldar and Númenóreans to Middle-earth.

Note: Círdan is possibly kin to Olwë

An elf friend is Ettelewen.

Riddermark

In this story, I am the daughter of Angelimir and the elder sister of Adrahel, who is 36 in TA 2953. I come to Rohan with King Thengel. My husband, Neldorian, and his brother Hathaldir are the king's advisors, and I am a friend of Queen Morwen's (her family also came from Belfalas). My daughter is Silmarien, and my sons are Iorhael and Berhael.

My brother, Adrahil, has a three-year-old daughter, Finduilas, and a six-year-old daughter, Ivriniel. (Imrahil will be born in 2955). I come from the windy Bay of Belfalas and am from Dol Amroth, a city known for their harpists. I play the harp, but only in private!

I am tall, of Númenórean and elvish descent, and I have dark hair and grey eyes. I can speak some Sindarin.

In the Pan Historia Junction Novel:

I am Menellen Lindórië of Alqualondë. I was born on the eastern shore of Aman, to Elennar, who is Vanyarin and Noldorin, and to Aiwë of the Telperi. My father Elennar is the cousin of Elenwë, Turgon's wife. My father's family is proud to serve the House of Finwë. My mother Aiwë is the niece of Olwë and Elwë. My maternal parents awoke in Cuiviénen.

My mother died in the kinslaying at Alqualondë. My grieving father could not face his wife's Telerin kin in Aman, so he followed Turgon and Elenwë to exile in Middle Earth. During the journey, my aunt Elenwë perished in crossing the Helcaraxë.

I lived in Nevrast with my father and Turgon and also lived near my father while they built Gondolin. But I also visited other kingdoms, and when my father and Turgon moved to Gondolin, I journeyed to Doriath.

In Doriath, I lived with Melian the Maia and the people of her kingdom. The Doom of the Noldor followed us, and Thingol required Beren to acquire a Silmaril if he wanted to wed Lúthian. The dwarves killed Thingol, Melian left Middle-earth, and her Girdle of protection was broken. My intended, Neldorion, died defending Doriath.

I fled with other survivors to the Mouths of Sirion, where Círdan offered refuge. Later I went to the Isle of Balar, which was once part of Tol Eressëa, the floating island which Ulmo used to transport Vanyar and Noldor to Aman. However, a piece grounded and broke off, becoming Balar. There I collected pearls found along the coasts of the island. Gil-galad fled to Balar after the fall of Gondolin.

Later, I lived in the Grey Havens, led by Círdan. After living there for some time, in the Third Age I traveled to see the new kingdoms and briefly sojourned in Greenwood the Great.

This is my personal device. It is the swanships of Alqualondë circling a combination of the winged sun and the winged moon.

Narnia

In Narnia

As Menellenea, I am the daughter of Hamadryas and Oxylos. Hamadryas is the daughter of Oreios. I am a willow woman from the Lantern Waste, and I live among the ancient forest of talking trees. I grew up among the Golden Tree, the Silver Tree, and the Tree of Protection.

I love to dance. I frequent the Dancing Lawn, the traditional site of feasts and councils, where the elms border the circle of grass. I participate in the Great Snow Dance that happens on the first moonlit night after the snow has fallen. Fauns, dryads and dwarfs meet north of the Great River and dance to the wild, sweet, and slightly eerie sound of 4 fiddles, 3 flutes, and a drum. People throw snowballs, and if we misstep in the dance slightly, we get hit by the snowballs. I've been known to get hit from time to time!

In Narnia:

birch-girls in silver, beech-girls in fresh, transparent green, larch-girls in green so bright it's almost yellow.
Midnight dances (p. 116)
There are yellow flowers (celandines), snowdrops
There are hawthorn bushes, kingfishers, bluebells, thrushes (birds), green thickets, wide mossy glades, and tall elms.
There are snow-white cherry trees, mossy rocks, waterfalls, echoing caverns, window slopes with gore bushes, heathery mountains, and blue flowers.
There are larches and birches in green, laburnums in gold, beech trees with delicate, transparent leaves. (p. 165, 167, 186, 188)

My sisters are:
Karya - hazel nut, walnut, sweet chestnut - young, short, adaptable, wise, knows a lot of useful things, stimulating to be around. I'm closest to Karya.

Balanos/Balanis - oak -

Kraneia - cornelian cherry - young, beautiful, tiny yellow blossoms in spring.

Morea - medium height. Adaptable.

Aigeiros - Black Poplar - always thirsty.

Ptelea - European Elm -

Ampelos - grape vine - turbulent, deep voice, changes side quickly, short. (In mythology, Ampelos was sometimes a satyr who was gored by a bull, so Dionysos changed him into a vine and a male Hamadryas).

Syke - fig tree - stocky, bright green leaves, muscular arms.

My friend is Melia - ash tree.

Note: short-lived tree = young here.

Babylon 6

I am a human born on Yedor, the capital city Minbar. My father is a Ranger (Anla'Shok) at Ranger headquarters, and my mother works at the Earth Alliance Embassy. My father was trained by Delenn, who was the leader or Entil'Zha. for a time. After the 2nd Shadow War, rangers became peacekeepers.

We speak Adronato, the language of the religious caste, and we are vegetarian, like the religious caste. (For breakfast, we eat synthetic temshwee eggs). Like other humans living on Minbar, we add spices to the food because we can't taste the flavor. I like to add lots of jenn bulbs (garlic), xenn (lemon) juice, and owala paste (Dijon mustard).

Yedor is a beautiful city cut out of crystalline deposits. When I was a child, we would go to the northern ice cap in winter; it covers almost of the surface, and I had a pet Gokk, which has the demeanor of a cat.

Minbar is the 7th planet in our system, and we have 2 moons. Minbar is colder than Earth.

In the 21st century, humans thought our binary stars, which they called Chi Draconis, couldn't support life. They said that if any planet could support liquid water (be in the habitable zone), it had to be so close to the binaries that it wouldn't have a stable orbit. We're further out that 1.45 AU, of course, because Minbar has a stable orbit, thank you.

One of our suns is a F7V (hotter than Earth's sun), and the other is a K0V (cooler).

Minbari - good link
