It is the Yule season of the Year of Our Lord, 1066. But in Yorkshire, there is very little to celebrate. Earl Morkar, the Good Earl, has been summoned south to the court of William the Bastard in London. None believe he will return.
So as the wolves gather to begin attacking the Earl's domain to claim what they can by whatever means necessary, tragedy strikes the market town of Easingwold.
Gydel, their lawful Thegn, has been thrown from his horse while hunting and has but a little time left upon this earth. Which leaves his widow, Tova, in an evil place. If word gets out that Gydel is dead without naming an heir, wolves will come in droves to claim her, the town and whatever else they can get their hands upon.
