The infamous socialite was born on 28 July 1894 as Winifred May Berkin, the second child of British colonel, Charles Berkin and his wife, Claire Lloyd. She's more well-known by her nickname - Freda.
Freda was married twice. Her first husband, liberal MP William Dudley Ward, turned a blind eye to his wife's affairs at first. The couple married in 1913 and welcomed two daughters - Penelope (1914) and Angela (1916) before William demanded a divorce on the grounds of adultery. The proceedings were finalized in 1931. Her second marriage to Jose Mores, Marques de Casa Maury, lasted from 1937 until 1954; they had no children.
She was first introduced to Edward, The Prince of Wales, in 1918, and immediately found him attractive. Their affair was well-known in aristocratic circles, and carried on until 1934, when "dear David" fell for Freda's friend, Wallis Simpson.
