"Just like the tree that's planted by the water, I shall not be moved."
I was born in 1845 in Natchez, Mississippi and sold at a slave market when I was 12. By the time I was 17, Vicksburg was burning. I have seen the worst that men can do to one another. I have seen the best. I have seen a lot.
I've outlived friends and wives, children and grandchildren. Many I love have been called home, but its not my time yet.
There's still a lot left for me to do on this earth, and I'll do it all from my front porch in Beaumont, Texas.
There ain't no man that can save me
There ain't no man that can enslave me
There ain't no man or men that can change the shape my soul is in
There ain't nobody here
Who can cause me pain or raise my fear 'cause I got only love to share
If you're looking for truth I'm proof you'll find it there
