You know. Family Legacies sometimes suck. I wish mine could have been been very different, a legacy of love and compassion in a more... traditional sense.
That's not what I received at all from my family. I was passed around in the foster care system most of my life. I was abused, suicidal, the freak who kept her nose in a book or a sketch pad. In high school, the new boy at school took a shine to me - his name is Cayde. I found out later Cayde was a journeyman mage... and a born half-were, a panther. He was my guardian, sent too late by my grandfather... who ultimately left me with an art gallery, some sketchy abilities, and a collection of crap that could end the world if any of it fell in the wrong hands.
Oh yeah... he left me his building. The Old Dallas Coffin Factory... a/k/a an art gallery called The Mind's Eye..
My ex-first-love is a were-panther, my best friends are two vampires, a werewolf, and a Goth-lite kid from Oklahoma.
Our dinners together are always... interesting.
Did I mention The Eye is a safe haven for outcast werewolves, fledgling vampires, the place where all this dangerous crap is kept... and an art gallery? All located in Dallas' super trendy, downtown, historic West End? Read that as super Right in the Middle of Everything, and Everyone.
I am Laura Jaymes, Mistress of the Eye. It's my job to keep all this crap out of the hands of those who would use it to do really. really. really. bad things.
