The very first unit of XynTech’s brand new, innovative series of sentient, humanoid bodyguard androids — a trademark lab-grown fusion of cutting-edge technology and extremely resilient, purportedly human biological matter of undisclosed origin — turned out to be flawed.
However, XynTech’s responsible project manager decided not to destroy BGU-01-01 on the grounds that — despite visible shortcomings — it functioned within tolerable margins, and production had been too costly to let an otherwise efficient unit go to waste. Moreover, all other BGU units of series 01 had turned out to the corporation’s full satisfaction.
For the galaxy-wide auction, BGU-01-01 was advertised as a ‘special edition.’ The entire series, including the flawed unit, was sold off within the hour, another huge success for the galaxy-wide player, XynTech.
The story of BGU-01-01 is essentially the result of a chemical reaction that occurred while reading a story by Nehemiah Jansik right after finishing Ginn Hale's novella “Feral Machines.”
A series of what-if questions was triggered, and BGU-01-01’s existence is the result. His character, world, and story, however, are his own.
