It is said that life is mapped out for each of us long before we are actually born. A dragon's life is no different. The Ancients, dragons who have gone before, shape the lives of every dragon and rider that is born. It is they who peek into the future and see the rider that is the perfect match for every Airwalker. Sometimes though I question their decisions, though I only do so out of reference.
See I have lived through the deaths of two riders already. This is practically unheard of because while dragon's extend the lives of their human counterparts, neither generally live much beyond the death of the other. When the first rider was taken from me, my soul shattered but the death of peace never came and I healed. It was only by the will of the Ancients that I took another rider and bonded again. I flew with him for more then two human life times but in the end, it was the same. I lost him in battle and yet, I was still here. Those times were dark for me for I had to wonder if my bond with either of them had been true. If it had been, surely I would have died and been spared the anguish of walking this path twice.
But then came the third and, I know, final rider... Amari. She is my little one. I smelt her upon the wind before she was even born. I felt her mind touch my own more deeply then any other has. I felt my soul lift and the bond that I had rightfully questioned before, surge within me and scream for what only she could give.... a sense of finally being whole.
I watched her birth, I watched her grow. We danced in the sky long before she could walk and I swam with her long before she could speak. My name, though warped on her learning tongue, brought tears to my heart and joy to my spirit. I was whole and it only took living hundreds of years to find it. Was this the Ancients way of granting me final peace?
We bonded the moment she was born and since then, we have been one in all things. She was the mirror mind when I mated with the Queen. I was the pillow she wet in when her heart was burden. We are the force behind all the dragons and riders and yet, we are just US.
I am Graygor, leader of the Dragonrider's Guild and this is my story....
