 John is a mystery to most, and that is by design. He doesn't let people in very easily, if ever. It's just the way he's always been. So when he meets and asks Abigail out for lunch, the action surprises even himself. Yet being a man of honor, he cannot in good conscience reverse himself without shaming Abigail and dishonoring himself. And so he embraces the fact that he was so bold. After all, what can it hurt to have a pretty girl on his arm for a few days as he takes care of some business? And who knows, maybe he'll even take her out dancing one night.

 Abigail thinks John is a really nice guy. Actually, she thinks he's cute! Suave, debonair, well dressed, well read and he's got money. Not that she really cares about that too much. Yes, it's nice, but it's not what makes the world go round. Abigail's going to college, studying psychology as well as economics, she knows she'll have her own money soon enough. So when John asks her out to lunch on their meeting, she thinks that maybe they'll just have a date or two before he needs to return home for work. And that's fine, she's not looking for love, but a date or two would be nice.
