In the Alien-Hive Novel
 I grew up on Mars, not the nicest planet, especially when your mother is blind drunk most of the time and your father is out of the picture. Ergo you practically raise yourself, which also means you learn real fast who to trust and who to keep away from.
 I spent years hiding out in the ghettos, stealing what I needed and beating the crap out of anyone who tried to take what was mine. Friends didn't exist and being responsible for only myself made it easier to avoid the rape gangs so when the recruiters showed up and told us what a great future we could have in the Corps it seemed like the only chance to get out.
 Been in the Corps now for a good few years, seen more death and destruction than you could even imagine and now I'm a prisoner on a ship heading to who knows where. Only thing my captors need to know is that I'm a marine, I ain't gonna go down without a fight!
