The Biography of Eleanor Rose Dashwood

My name is Eleanor Dashwood, I am the youngest and only daughter amongst five children of well-respected and well-known parents, my father Lord Charles Dashwood, General of the 33rd Regiment of Foot (British Army) served in India under the British East India Company for over twenty years and rose through the ranks from Ensign to General in short amount of time. My mother, Lady Emma Dashwood (nee Upchurch), may god rest her soul, the youngest daughter of Duke and Duchess of Hereford. A match was arranged by both sets of parents' of either family. It was funny how things work out in arrange marriage. My parents married soon after my father, a Lieutenant arrived back from India.

As the years followed my four elder brothers were born year apart and then myself was born in 1793; when my father was serving in India. As my brothers and I grew up and educated, I noticed that my elder brothers began to follow in my father’s footsteps and went into British Army. Each started under my father’s regiment the 33rd Regiment of Foot. My father then soon got word that he is being transferred to Kolkata (Calcutta) India with his regiment, which means the entire family was uprooted and sailed to Kolkata, India.

As for myself, I was born and raised in England for a short time before moving to India with my entire family when I was six months old, and it was within that six months peropd that my beloved mother passed away. My family was stationed in Kolkata with the British Army and their families along with Indians that were living in the area. It is living in Kolkata, that I began to learn about people that live in Kolkata ranging from their customs and traditions. I am considered to be a true English beauty with long golden wavy hair, haunting blue-gray eyes and creamy tan and flawless complexion also dressed in a finery of a noble family. I’m caring, passionate, as well being outspoken individual, of which I need at times to hold my tongue.

During my growing up years in this beautiful country of India, my Indian nanny Madhur as well as her husband, my tutor Sahir, both have taught me so much about their country and their people that I felt more drawn towards the Indians and their cause. Little did I know that I would be helping them behind my father’s back. My nanny, Madhur Sanji is Aunt to my Hindustani friend, Avanti Sanji and along with Avanti’s help I began train in secret to wield a sword for the I have become quite excellent swordsman as well as horseman. It was something that my Indian friend, Avanti and her family has helped me at a young age and it is not customary for an English woman to learn how to use a weapon.

After living in India for ten years, my father received orders to return to England and I decided to go back to England with him. It has been 10 years since I left England and most of my family or should say... my mother's family had a country estate just outside of London and this is where I'll be staying while my father is in London.
