As a tiny baby, Elektra was left one evening outside the Maral the Midwife’s home in a tiny basket, wrapped in a worn shawl. There was no note, as it was highly likely that the woman or person who left the baby could not read or write. At first Maral was going to take Elektra to a temple to be raised by the priest or priestess but gradually the little annoying baby grew on her, and eventually Maral named the baby Elektra.
Even as a baby Elektra seemed to see the world through different eyes, Maral always swore that the child knew exactly what was going on around her and she did. When Elektra was about five years old she began to have visions of the future. Soon, people began to talk about her the way they did Princess Kassandra, and the friendly little five year old was shunned by those around her.
This went on for a few years, until one day, Elektra saw an old beggar woman in the streets rattling on and on about some strange visions she had and acting very crazy. Instead of shaking their heads at her, people placed coins in the clay cup at her feet, and said “Poor old woman.” She would tell them anything they wanted to hear. That same day, Elektra saw Maral at work for the first time in her short life and realized that even Maral acted a bit crazy. For it seemed that a crazy person was not shunned or made fun of. Instead, a crazy person was ignored and considered harmless. They were even given money for telling fortunes. From then on, Elektra decided to act a bit crazy, and soon followed into Maral’s footsteps. And so her life went on in for the next ten years or so until when Maral died and Elektra decided it was time to move on. She had caused enough chaos and trouble for the city of Troy. There was no reason to stay in Troy if Maral was not there so she decided to move to another city and let her presence be known there.
