I have run away from my home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in order to escape from marriage to a dreadful man my parents wanted to force me to marry. True, he is wealthy, but I couldn't bear to look at that face every single day for the rest of my life, not to mention if I ever had children, the risk of their looking like their father would have been too much!
I found a refuge with Miss Keturah Oakley, who gave me employment at Oakley's Drygoods Emporium. I had a falling out with her over our differing views, but after a harrowing experience in which I ran away, I have come to regard her in a much different light, as, in fact, quite sensible!
To add to my distress, the letter I received from my brother, Charles, telling me that my parents have hired a Pinkerton detective to try to find me contributed to my running away. Now, since I am back in Tombstone, I shall have to watch out for strangers. My life is becoming one complication after another!
