In the Torchwood Novel
 Nathan is a member of the Torchwood Team in Glasgow although he originally hails from Manchester. A former student at Glasgow University, Nathan has a degree in Civil Engineering and spent seven years in the Army where he learned a good many other skills including: Shooting and weapons handling; Abseiling; Mountaineering; White-water rafting; Hang Gliding and Paragliding; Kayaking; Caving; Ice-climbing; Sub Aqua Diving, hand to hand combat and Free Fall Parachuting
 His career took him around the world and while he is no longer in the army full time, he's a Corporal in the Territorial Army.
 He lives with Melissa, his girlfriend of 3 years in a one bedroom flat in the West End area of Glasgow. A former employee of the BBC, Melissa now works freelance as a film maker and is often away on location. Their relationship is a strong one.
Recruited to Torchwood London five years ago, Nathan was immediately interested when the position at Glasgow became available and has been a member of the team for the last four years. Melissa thinks he's still involved with the army and doesn't ask questions.
