In the Outlanders Novel:
 Loyal to Kainan, Narvina was the spoiled daughter of a nobleman, once tipped to become a member of the royal family through a proposed marriage to Rohnan, however her father disgraced the family name and they were exiled from Morech, effectively ending her childish hopes and dreams.
Forced to face reality, Narvina could no longer trade on her wealth and position and had to earn a living to support her family. She became a servant in the home of a military comrade of General Kainan, finding him to be an honorable and fair employer. When the call to bear arms went out, she volunteered, having been taught a variety of skills by his eldest son, Tolec. They had planned to ask permission to marry but the arrival of the Mo-hor-wein changed everything.
 Tolec was killed when they attacked and Narvina survived by hiding beneath a host of rotting bodies, enduring the stench for three days until she was discovered and taken to safety. With no member of her family remaining she pleaded with General Kainan to add her name to the list of those chosen to be twinned with the demons and was joined with Looshen. Looshen healed her wounds and bestowed upon her the ability to see snatches of the future although her interpretation of her visions is not always correct.
