My mother is a full-blooded Quileute, born and raised on the Rez in La Push, and my father is a lawyer from Seattle--nobody famous, but successful enough. I grew up in Seattle, but I spent a month every summer on the reservation with my mother's family, particularly her favorite cousin, Billy Black. I loved hearing the tribe's legends about Spirit Warriors and Cold Ones, although I, of course, never believed them to be more than myths and superstitions. But ever since I moved to Forks, WA to substitute teach at the local high school, I've begun to notice a lot of strange things . . .
And I can't seem to shake this fever. |
