In the Torchwood Novel

Colonel Marcus Vale works for Torchwood London as leader of Team 1.
A covert ops expert with years of experience in the military, he's very good at what he does and has a wealth of skills to hand.
He lives alone in a ground floor apartment which is more a place to sleep and shower than a real home and was involved in an affair with Maria Di Marco, a fellow member of his team at Torchwood.
When Yvonne received an email detailing the affair Marcus was reprimanded and instructed to end it while Maria was "removed" from Torchwood. He has now been allocated a replacement who he believes was instrumental in getting rid of Maria.
Marcus is now more interested in who advised Yvonne of the liaison and why they're still spying on him and has set himself the task of beating them at their own game.
In the Alien - Hive Novel:

Marcus previously worked for the same Company as Tiera Shrenn, unlike most people he actually has a conscience and knows the mission given to the Bourgainville means certain death for the majority, including Tiera and something much worse for those who survive.
After pulling some strings to get himself some vacation time, he makes the mistake of employing someone else to give him a helping hand and finds himself double crossed.
Now he must recover a vital piece of equipment and try and save the crew of the Bourgainville from reaching DF5 and discovering what the Company wants to hide because discovery means death.
In the Slave to the Hunger Novel:
Marcus was the Agent for the Senate in Las Vegas until he was apparently brutally murdered by Gemini.
After being turned into a vampire he killed Emily, the Chancellors assistant, acting on a pre-programmed suggestion by Gemini, and is now on the run.
Gemini is suspected to be his sire but present there's no proof of that and Marcus can't remember what happened, for now he's just acting on instinct alone.
