The Doctor's bio of such..
I'm what you call a Time Lord, the last of the Time Lords. I was born on the planet that was once called Gallifrey. It is here I will explain about my heritage as a Time Lord this is well before I choose my new name that will one day be the most recognizable and well-famous throughout the universe. Currently, I am in my 8th regeneration cycle and without a companion for over three years.
Throughout my life, I had a particular association and affinity with the planet Earth and its Humans. Perhaps this is where I first met my new companion, Este Taliesen; who I find out later is really an alien...like myself...with no family. She too is the last of her kind. Este...or should say Her Imperial Highness Princess Este of Himalia. The Crown Jewel and along with many titles, and names that her people have given her until that fateful day... The Day of Reckoning or The End of Days as she calls it. The day that her family, the Imperial Family of Himalia and her entire planet died at the hand of a vicious enemy.
It was during our traveling through time and space that Este and I became very close friends, and this is where I find out that she has powerful enhanced telepathic ability; which has been useful from time to time.
