| A Night at the Opera |

Meanwhile in the orchestra pit....
On any given night in most concert halls of this particular calibre, somebody's instrument is bound to malfunction And wouldn't you know it, not a violin string has broken - yet; not a single double reed is too soggy, not a pad on the clarinets is missing. Even the brass section seems polished and shipshape; every set of chops is ready to buzz. For now.
The tympani, however, are another story. Some rather manic-depressive, half-starved moonlighter who could care less about whether his cummerbund is buttoned or his hair is combed straight just can't seem to get them in tune and keeps asking the horn section to be quiet. Lest the man is only a quarter tone off! Sheesh -- where did you say the union collared him from - Leamington College? The ethnomusicology faculty? Why did Louie have to call in sick anyhow? He was fine this morning at rehearsal....
