Ahoy, mates…just a few words, or so, to introduce meself. I’m Jack Sparrow…that’s Captain Jack Sparrow, of course. Twas quite a surprise and honor to be asked to assist in the judgin’ of this Iron Writer contest! I accepted without a second thought for, like our two opponents in this noblest of literary endeavors, I’m always likin’ a challenge and enjoy the thrill of competition at its finest!
My credentials qualifyin’ me for this highly regarded duty as judge, speak for themselves…I’m Captain Jack Sparrow! Savvy? World traveler, adventurer of the far reaches of the globe, navigator of the seven seas more times than I can count on me fingers and toes, learned cartographer - it all says plenty ‘bout my experiences and expertise in judgin’ on any subject, story, tale, legend, style of writin’, or genre you can be inventin’!
I’ve competed meself in many contests, ruthless battles and games of chance…for gold, riches that would make your head spin, lands, glory, dare I say eternal life…and ladies’ hearts. I’ve seen it all, done it all, and gotten in a peck o’ trouble for my bold and darin’ escapades – and then used cleverness and some genuine ol’ lady luck to get out o’ said trouble!
Pirate Lord of the Caribbean Seas is my official title, but I prefer to just describe meself as a scallywag extraordinaire and Captain of the most noblest of sailin’ vessels to grace the oceans of the world, the galleon of beauty and speed, power and might - the Black Pearl! And, certainly not of least importance but rather the opposite - I’m Sesen’s man.
My adventures here at Pan have been quite diverse and noteworthy, and I’m right proud to be associated with such a fine group of mischievous, roguish scholars, if I have to say so meself! I’ve tested my fate and fortune, comin’ out victorious in a few contests, dabbled with writin’ poetry and shared my piratical wisdom with the Pan universe through “Bring Me That Horizon”, my own personal journal of interestin’ quotes, my Sese’s art and the like.
Most of my travels and darin’ exploits have been chronicled, and will continue to be, in my fair love Sesen’s memoirs, “My Heart Belongs to a Pirate.” In that most tender and thrillin’ account, I often contribute, addin’ my view of our lives together - seen through a rascal of a rapscallion’s eyes.
Enough twaddle speak…on with the competition! Here’s wishin’ Wyatt and Devlin all the skills necessary to be demiurges of their own little worlds of the written word! May the most skillful wordsmith, grammarian, lexicographer, linguist, polyglot, journalist, scribe…you get my drift…the best of the best essayist win this coveted Iron Writer crown of glory!
I salute you both…and my worthy co-judges. May our deliberations be just and forthright!
Get on with it, gents!
