Making His Way to the Party

Author: Nick Capra  Date:   12-31-11 10:19 "Hello Mr. Capra, room service speaking." "Shit... uh... hold on..." Nick groped around for a menu somewhere, feeling foolish that he didn't decide what he wanted before he picked up the phone. "Oh yeah... let's see... one sec..." He scanned down the amazing list of options to see what sounded good. "If I might interrupt for a moment, Mr. Capra?" "Yeah, sorry, what?" "Since it's New Year's Eve we have quite a splendid buffet laid out for all the guests downstairs. You might want to join the party. There is also a rather excellent champagne, or of course the full bar." "I don't think I brought my wallet, I'm not sure I'm in the mood..." "All on the house, sir. Never any charge at the Hotel Panopeia." Christ on a cupcake, but it was sure as hell creepy at the Hotel Panopeia. No blood spatters, or rotting corpses in the bathtub yet, but surely it was just a matter of time. It was more and more like the damn Shining all the time. Any minute now he'd be in the restroom talking to the concierge and be told he was the caretaker, he'd always been the caretaker and why doesn't he take an axe to his loved ones? "What the hell. I'll be down. Never mind my order." "No problem, Mr. Capra. It's our pleasure to be of service." Creepy!!! Nick realized he wasn't really all that excited about putting on the same old dirty clothes he'd just shucked out of. As a matter of habit he went to the closet to see what he had, even as he chided himself. He hadn't known he was coming here for a stay, so he certainly hadn't packed anything! He opened the doors anyway. There was his entire wardrobe plus some. Ok, so probably he was still in his apartment anyway. That made sense. He was hallucinating after all. Where would his clothes be except his closet? Just because it looked like some freaking four star hotel in Florida around here didn't mean it really was. He ignored the gorgeously tailored tuxedo that he knew he didn't own and went for his tee-shirt with the tuxedo image on it, and added a pair of black jeans, and purple All-Star Converse high top sneakers. This time it was easy to get downstairs. In fact Nick wouldn't have been surprised if he'd gotten to the party even if he'd started by climbing the stairs up. All roads led to Rome this time. There was a shitload of new folks here now, and the sounds of music and laughter wafted through the halls, along with a lot of other very confused people. What was going on? And why?
