A little explanation about this poem – it’s different from my others. This is a “narrative” poem, done in free style. It tells a small story, and does not rhyme. I had many beautiful images in mind when I wrote the chapters of “My Heart Belongs to a Pirate” that dealt with Jack and Sese finding their island of Bali Hai. I wrote them all down – and then thought months later that they would make a pretty narrative poem by themselves. The island is alive…and speaks to them in a very real way. I hope you enjoy….
Enchanted Island

The Black Pearl’s Captain, explorer, discoverer, finds an island -
Quiet and green, floating in a turquoise blue sea.
A place where dreams unfold,
A place of solitude for a man and woman.
The Paradise calls to lovers – “Come to me.”
The sky is brilliant blue, a scattering of cottony clouds –
Sea gulls fly above, searching the sea below.
The Black Pearl’s bow rides gently,
Graceful on blue waves and white seafoam.
Unknown forces urge her forward, whispers on the tides – “Sail on.”
The Captain’s trusted compass, ever alert -
So knowing of his adventuresome heart’s desires.
Leading him there – following a legend of old, a myth.
And thus he brings her, his true love – his mate, his destiny.
The island’s voice fills his mind, the promise – “I am here…find me.”
Forward, through a fog as dense as lamb’s wool -
The Pearl labors to find her way.
Above a sliver of blue sky appears.
A paradise island is revealed, an emerald gem,
Afloat in shimmering blue – “At last, I am found.”
Crystal beaches, white as snow -
Palm trees gently swaying,
A mountain looms far in the distance,
Beckoning the lovers to journey there –
“Look up, climb…to the summit!”
The anchor is dropped into a sparkling cove -
The Black Pearl, finally at rest from her toil.
She’s brought them to this isle of dreams,
Proudly stands guard while they play and love.
The wood creaks – “I’m content to stay awhile.”
The breeze is warm, the air is scented -
A rainbow of colors, flowers bloom in abundance,
Peeking from rocky crevices on silver streams’ banks,
Scattered on lush green forest carpets and wooded paths.
The Captain picks a flower for her hair. The island sighs – “Perfect.”
Birds sing them a melody as they walk hand in hand -
Over velvet grasses and sparkling springs,
Bubbling up from below, over well-worn rocks,
Flowing over and under the thirsty earth,
Nourishing the soil, giving life to Paradise – “I flourish.”
The Captain’s hand is strong, his grip is firm –
Guiding his love around tree branches, over roots.
His hold on her is undeniable,
Just as the vines tenaciously cling to the swaying trees.
Two inseparable lovers on an adventure – “Explore me.”
A large rock, a sentinel over the valley below -
An ideal seat for them to catch their breaths.
The perfect place to share an intimate touch,
A long kiss – deep - and wet as this morning’s dew.
The mountain’s summit implores – “A little farther.”
Higher still they climb, yet she feels no fear -
Her Captain guides her, he leads her boldly,
She knows not why or where - nor does she care,
For she would and will follow her man,
To the ends of the earth and beyond. - “Be not afraid here.”
The mountain top is their goal -
The view is worth every step, every turn.
They gaze down upon this lovers’ paradise,
Holding each other, breathless, in wonder.
The mountain whispers, satisfied - “You have conquered me.”

Delicious treats, tropical fruits the Captain has gathered -
Climbing trees, his playful smile, eager to please.
The warm sweetness of these luscious fruits satisfy,
Yet, can not be compared to his lips – their lovers’ kiss.
Play and tease – feeding each other this island’s candy – “Savor.”
A cool glade is found, declared magical as the sun filters through -
Creating green light of soft and varied hues.
The lovers lay down – on a mantle of soft clover.
Love’s wondrous pleasures become paramount, nothing else.
Trees, birds, flowers - all vanish with a murmur – “Enchanted.”
She is captured, held in the web of her Captain’s embrace -
His passion rising to a level greater than their mountain.
His sighs are sensuous, her touch more gentle than the breeze.
The mountain trembles with their joining, the ocean swells.
Words of love more melodic than any bird’s song – “I love you.”
Evening approaches, the sun glows bright orange -
The cove resembles a sheet of glass, still and translucent.
The Black Pearl’s beauty reflected in a mirror of blue silver,
The Captain’s skin awash with the golden glow of sunset.
His moist lips sooth the blush of sunburn on her cheeks – “Gentle.”
The ocean summons - jump in, swim over and under the sea’s foam -
Their skin refreshed by the water’s cool touch.
Her Captain’s arms surround her, making her feel safe.
The ocean’s strength can not harm her – his arms are shelter.
The frolicking waves call the lovers – “Come play, join us.”
A meal of shellfish, ripened fruit and rum -
The fire glows, the salted wood creates a rainbow of colors.
Laughter and songs echo against the sand dunes.
The tides whisper of secrets found in the ocean’s depths,
But her Captain’s whispers are far more enticing – “Touch me.”
They stare into the firelight, flames twist and twirl before them -
The waves’ endless caress of the shore is their music.
A melody is murmured by his lips – words of tender love.
The beat, eternal rhythm of the sea, pounds against the thirsty sands.
The island begs - “Stand and dance, a dance with the breeze.”
The moon climbs into the night sky, joined by millions of stars -
A rendezvous, ages old – yet fueled by love’s mysterious powers,
The heavens above are new, as seen through lovers’ eyes.
He points out stars – his guidance, companions on distant voyages.
Stars twinkle – envious of love that lights their eyes – “Eternal.”
A walk along the shell-covered shore – ah, a starfish, a sand dollar -
A treasure trove of Nature’s bounty, deposited at their feet.
She holds a chambered shell to his ear, he listens and smiles.
They laugh, and play at the water’s edge, chased by incoming waves.
The seafoam gathers, tickles around their toes – “Be child-like.”
The moon looks sleepy wrapped in his black starry blanket -
Night’s shadows have fallen, lovers entangle in passion’s embrace.
They rest for a moment and listen to the ocean’s lullaby.
A song as old as time itself, begging to merge, be one with the shore.
Their love, akin to this lullaby – eternal yearning – “Join together.”
The fire’s embers have faded to a red glow –
Her Captain’s eyes closed in peaceful sleep.
She gazes upon him, his face, his tan skin, his strong arms.
His perfect body, so masculine and virile – belonging to her.
The island’s magic whispers to her – “Kismet, fate…your destiny.”
At peace, complete contentment against his chest -
Buried in braided hair, finding joy in lying awake for awhile.
She hears him sigh in his sleep, and wonders what he dreams –
He draws her closer to his warmth, and whispers her name –
She has her answer – the Captain dreams of her – “My Blossom.”
Warm breath against her, he stirs in his sleep –
A pale pink glow hovers over the horizon.
Birds softly sing their song of waking,
The sun’s warmth stretches out over the calm sea.
Paradise yawns – “Lovers, time to rise, start your day.”
A ray of dawn’s light glimmers on the Black Pearl’s angel -
Dark brown, soul-searching, sleepy eyes finally open –
The Captain of the Black Pearl awakens his lover,
With a smile, a caress and a soft kiss.
The island rejoices in the sun – “Love has found me.”
